At work today we were talking about hard drives and the need to defrag a windows hard drive because of how it stores the data in sectors with a reference to it so when you delete information it is still there and a defrag kind of sorts it all out. We cant figure out how unix and macs manage to store data on a hard drive which doesnt require the defrag. We have asked a couple of people but nobody can give us an answer. Anybody got an explanation?
