New to Mac OS but need to install Windows 10 for work apps and bit of gaming having trouble with boot camp assistant I cannot seem to get past "partitioning drive..." it takes ages and nothing moves past half-way or so.

It never gets past this point so not sure what to do not sure if it helps but this specs of iMac

⁃ iMac (Retina 5k, 27-inch, 2019)

⁃ running macOS Catalina

⁃ 1TB Fusion drive installed formatted as APFS

Did some googling and tried running the following command:fsck_apfs -s -o -y /dev/rdisk2

But that came back with the following error : Error: container /dev/rdisk2 is mounted with write access

Just a bit stuck now on what to do apart from buying gaming laptop.

Any mods please move to Running Windows (or anything else) on your Mac if this should be in they instead

Welcome to our forums.

Setting up a Mac to run Windows 10 using Boot Camp while running Catalina is not as easy as it was with older Mac operating systems. Catalina uses the newer file system. (APFS)

Without really knowing what has already been done, it's difficult to make a suggestion.

However, there is a thread in the Apple User Forums that may help you somewhat:

catalina and bootcamp - Apple Community

Read thru that thread and try what has been suggested.
