Hi guys, I left my (pre intel G5) iMac for about an hour. Nothing has been usual lately (no slowness or hard drive noises etc) and it had gone into sleep mode. When I woke it up the screen was frozen. I restarted and since then I have either got the dreaded question mark showing the OS can't detect the hard drive or I get a no entry sign instead of the Mac logo. I have tried booting from some diagnostic disks and the harddrive doesn't appear in the list of drives to analyse (my external drive appears). I have tried rebooting a few times and it has started up but then frozen after a minute or two. I tried booting in safe mode and I am now getting the following message: unable to find driver for this platform: "powermac8,1" and a whole bunch of other stuff... Also no debugger congfigured - dumping debug information.. Panic.. we are hanging here ... etc! Also I can't eject the disk utility desk now! I know you can hold down the mouse button and eject the desk but I don't have a mouse any more as I am using a graphics pad.. and it doesn't seem to be working with my graphics tablet... I tried holding down my tablet left button and instead of the chime was a long beep sound fropm the mac speaker which I've never heard a mac make before!! Update - when trying to re-install the software (I tried the Panther, also the Tiger OS install disk) there are no destination drives to install to under 'Select a destination'. It doesn't seem to be a hardware problem, but it may well be - but I have no ideas at the moment. Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance...
