I was recently changing the permissions on a seconday internal hard drive that I have using the "Get Info" feature. When I went to the "Get Info" for the drive (named "Scratch Disk") and went down to the "Ownership and Permissions" area at the bottom and changed the ownership of this drive to just myself as administrator and no other users or group and rebooted the system the drive was gone from finder. Subsequent calls to Apple support yielded some help but no solution. Disk Utility cannot verify or repair the disk permissions, meaning that these selections are greyed out and cannot be selected. The verify and repair disk selections return that there is nothing to repair. This occurs also when booting up with the OSX disk and using First Aid there as well. At that point the Apple Care individual said that that was as far as they go unless I want to re-format the drive... Well, since I have data on the drive, I decided to pass on the format... The statement was then made that I would need to go to a forum like this one to get help. So to summarize, I think that the permissions on a 2ndary drive need to be rebuilt using some other tool or technique than Disk Utility. Please Help!
