External GPU for 2013 Mac Pro

I am looking for an external GPU setup for my 2013 Mac Pro. I don’t need top of the line performance. Just something that will allow for hardware HEVC encoding.

Any suggestions?

How familiar are you with external GPU's?

Initially or most importantly do you know eGPU's can cost in the neighborhood of $500+. In some cases the external housing & power supply can cost $400 by itself...then you need to purchase the actual video card & cables.

Just asking this before this turns into a detailed discussion.
