Started up my iMac this morning; no ethernet. Wi-fi works fine

Took it to the local apple repair store; they were able to use an ethernet adapter through the usb port and was able to make a connection. Not ready to spend money on a diagnostic yet; they ran a basic diagnostic and everything checked out.

When I go to add a connection in the System preferences pane and choose an interface, the ethernet option isn't even there; just wi-fi, fire wire, and bluetooth pan.

If a choose diagnostics from the assist me button, I have three ports to choose from: ethernet, wi-fi, or other. The ethernet option is greyed out and I can't even choose it.

I had no problems last night; it worked fine. But now I can't get any ethernet. I didn't do anything different -- didn't disconnect anything, etc. My internet connection is working fine, as I said. It's just the ethernet connection that somehow isn't being seen.

Anyone ever have this problem? Any ideas?

It sounds like you're having the same problem as described in this Macrumors Thread. Read through the thread (only two replies) and go to the link that the second poster supplied.

Also, when you post to the forums it's a good idea to tell us which Mac you have and what version of OS X it's running.
