I recently acquired an imac 2011. I took out the screen to inspect the unit and found the power pcb has some residue/damage to it. Maybe it is heat damage? I am not sure. There is also a small spot on a different pcb. Looking at the picture, does it appear the board would fail? The computer appears to operate fine. I could return it.

Thanks

Welcome to our forums.

Looks like corrosion from moisture damage. Hard to say how that happens to an iMac? Might be a good idea to return it.

I talked with the seller and he said it was chemical "wash" residue that is normal and shows after time. I have been looking at pcb for many years and don't recall one that looked like this so badly.

Yeah, I would take that "chemical wash" reply with a large grain of salt! I've seen corrosion before and that definitely looks like something was spilled on the logic board or it was exposed to a lot of moisture or high humidity. Besides, no one that I know uses a "chemical wash" to clean logic boards. Again, my advice is to return it but that's up to you.
