Best Apple TV version to get for my needs...?

I have a roku and have no issues with it, but it's a pain at playing video from my computer. I've used chromecast and plex but they aren't consistant. So all I want to do is stream videos (.mov's) that are on my computer to my tv.

Maybe use the screen share function too on my macbook pro.

What's the best Apple TV model for this? Can I go with an older used one on ebay? Better off buying the current one?

I also just went on ebay and used apple tv 2's sell for $180+ while used 3rdGen sell for $70. What's going on here?

2nd gen ATVs can be jailbroken (meaning you can get more content) whereas 3rd gen ones can't - hence they have more value
