Some may have noticed that I’ve been silent for the last few weeks. I did mention that I got dengue fever which was bad enough in itself but just over two weeks later my wife came down with the same virus. Unfortunately her symptoms although similar to mine were much worse leading to hospitalisation after 3 days. Stepping into her shoes with our guesthouse, negotiating with our insurance company, visiting my wife in hospital and generally keeping all the wheels turning has left me with little or no leisure time which means no forums. She is hopefully to be discharged today and as soon as she is well enough we’ll be flying back to Australia for a month. So I’m going to be flat out for a little while yet.
Anyway all the best to all of you and I look forward to contributing again soon.
Cheers,
Rod

Thanks Nick. It’s been a bit of a bun fight here. Apart from dealing with my own recovery I’ve twice the work load and a lot of online negotiating to do. Our insurance agents kept telling me that our original flight back to Australia could be cancelled and rebooked by them right up until the same day (which was last Monday) but neglected to mention that due to privacy regulations I would have to do the cancelling. Despite expressing my concern on Skype calls about this process I was not told I would have to do the cancelling until the day of the flight. I was understandably peed off because I was pretty sure she would not be fit to fly 2 days before. At which time I could have cancelled the flight online but because it was then less than 24hrs before the flight the cancel button was greyed out and clicking produced a dialogue box demanding I contact my “local” office. Of course there is no such thing here. So to avoid the no show penalty and thinking my insurance may not cover that, a sum of $1000.00 I tried to contact Qantas via Skype. In total I was on hold for nearly 3hrs. Apart from the wasted time the most annoying thing about that was the repetitive messages telling me about how I could save time by using their web site. Anyway mission accomplished and really I only did it to comply with our insurance so as not to endanger our medical claim.

Hey Rod...

Sounds very complicated. Medical insurance dealings can be quite distressing and require lots of time to resolve. I hope you and your wife recover completely and enjoy a good rest back home in Australia.

Keep in touch.

Regards, Charlie

Thanks Charlie, feel like we are going on holiday an in some ways we are. I think we could both do with a bit of R & R.

You and Annie have our blessings and best wishes.

Full recovery first. Work - and even the pleasure of the Forums - follows. We look forward to receiving your wisdom and patience as soon as you're able.

Thanks Ian, everything passes it seems. In a month we’ll look back and laugh. Health is so important. I’d rather be sick myself than see my wife sick (much as I might complain).

Hey Rod, sorry to hear of you & your wives misfortune but glad things have turned around for the both of you. It's a bummer being down and having to step up and handle it all. My wife and I just finished a flu bout and we both even got flu shots months ago but the pollen her in FL has been the worst I've seen in 20yrs we been here. Keep the faith brother.

So I had to look up dengue fever since it is not one I have encountered - or want to! It sounds like the flu on steroids! So glad you and your wife are doing better. Enjoy Australia - you deserve the rest and relaxation.
