I have had an annoying problem since I first bought my iPhone 12 Mini. Wondering if there’s a setting I can change to get around it.
Whenever I login to a wi-fi network (especially public wi-fi), it is generally a lot slower than my mobile network speed. It's fine for browsing the internet, sending email etc. but if I’m trying to watch a video, download a podcast etc. things grind to a halt but Wi-Fi-Assist doesn't seem to activate. I have to manually turn off wi-fi to let the video load over my mobile network. And then once the video is loaded I have to manually switch wi-fi on again to use the free public network again. It’s a real hassle.
It seems that once I have a wi-fi connection, the phone will ONLY use this (regardless of how slow it is) and ignores my paid - and fast - mobile data connection. I have Wi-fi Assist switched on. I thought this is what Wi-Fi Assist was meant to do: to default to wi-fi but if it’s slow, then switch to my mobile data instead - without me having to manually intervene all the time. But it's clearly not doing it properly.
Is there some kind of setting for the speed threshold or timeout of Wi-Fi Assist to get it actually working?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
