I believe that it will eventually be extended to other parts of the world. However, much depends on local consumer laws that exist.

This makes sense for the Macs, but for other devices (especially phones), it doesn't make a lot of sense since you'll replace it quickly enough.

However, the pricing would be interesting and you have to do the calculus of taking a chance after 3 years of having a costly replacement or yearly fee that you won't have the benefit of using.
