Solved! Holy cow! Of all the most trivial, simple and absolute dumbest reasons for not working.... I have solved most of the mystery. Figured I'd do one last internet trawl before committing to reinstalling Lion or even ML for that matter and came across something interesting. Check out step #3 on this, of all pages. Nothing found via apple.com, and I question whether or not an Genius/AppleCare would have gotten this little detail, though it is obviously documented somewhere on Apple's database. https://sonos.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/657/kw/airport%20extreme%20hard%20drive/session/L3RpbWUvMTM1MDQ1MDkxMi9zaWQvY1Y3Vl9WOGw%3D So, I changed the name of the Airport to something short and simple, and I can now see one of the HD's attached to it. Problem now is, it says there's nothing on the HD, even though it is showing the correct volume, space and remaining space left. Hmm.. almost there I guess? Doug
