Any word of a 27" iMac?

I'm quite attached to my 2017 27" iMac. But an earlier 2012 iMac has to go now, and will be replaced by a new iMac. I'm disappointed to see there is no 27" option. Is there any word of one in the works? Or how of others of you adapted to the size downgrade?

I went from a 2009 27" iMac to a 2018 Mac Mini with two 27" screens and now a Mac Studio with the same screens, a huge upgrade in my opinion and more cost effective.

A warm welcome to Mac-Forums, @berkowit28.

Like you, I'm very fond of my 27' iMac and, like you, would gladly buy another - but - I also understand that the movement is more towards a "box" with everything one needs, coupled with screen(s) which you purchase separately along with any other accessories.

The screen(s) are cheaper if purchased separately and allow you to determine their size and specifications according to your needs & pocket.

This change is often called progress:);)

Apple rarely or ever speaks of upcoming hardware before it is launched. Here are all the rumors of a 27-inch iMac:

So, if there is going to be a 27-inch iMac at all, it isn't likely to appear before 2023.

Most of us in the market for a 27-inch iMac have simply gotten a well spec'd Mac mini and paired it with a really nice 27-inch third party monitor. (There are some really excellent deals on 4K 27-inch monitors right now if you shop around.) You can put the mini right under the stand for the monitor for a similar desk footprint as you would have with an iMac. The current mini is a surprising powerhouse, at a reasonable price, so this is a very nice way to go.

Randy, it's a possible option for me (mini + display) and possibly for others who prefer the larger screen. I can't see myself going back to a smaller screen anytime soon so wondered if you, or anyone else reading this can recommend any external monitors of the same Apple quality but not the Apple price.

You know this is a pretty tall order.:) If folks could get an external monitor as good as Apple...but not the Apple price...Apple wouldn't sell very many Apple monitors.;)

If we could purchase a VW that had the performance & handling of a Porsche...but not the Porsche price...wouldn't many auto buyers get one.;)

Here's an example of a very good 5k monitor from LG (LG has been the supplier of Apple monitors in the past). At $1299 it's only $300 less than the $1599 Apple 27" Studio Display...but probably close in quality.
It has a camera & speakers as does the Apple display (not sure if they are of the same quality)...also not 100% sure if this LG display can charge devices (like Apple portable computers)...when plugged into the display.

But more seriously...there are many very good 4k monitors out there for 25-30% of the $1599 Apple Studio Display price (for folks that don't want to spend a ton on an Apple monitor).:)

Here are 2:

Here are some monitors that folks have really liked recently that are offered at excellent prices. Unfortunately these are all from Amazon in the U.S. As I'm in California, I have no idea what might be available for a good price in the U.K. Hopefully these can serve as a guide.:

Just read a rumor that Apple may be coming out with another 27" display possibly Q1 2023. It's supposed to be even more expensive that the current $1599 Studio Display! Lol

Samsung 28".

I operate a 2018 Mini connected to a S'sung LU28R55 [classified as a business monitor].

Not perfect, and be sure to evaluate its non-adjustable stand, but it sure displays a good picture.

If used for gaming, its response/refresh time can be iffy.
