Update: Report on the iPad 2 on Vacation I decided to bring the iPad 2 on a 9 day European vacation. 7 days on a boat, 2 days on land. I left all my computers at home - but powered on with Teamviewer running. I did log in a few times just to check on things but nothing major. Overall I was pleased with the experience. I wasn't going to do any heavy computing. Traveling with the iPad was much lighter than with my computer. I had to run through an airport terminal (didn't make it to my connection though) and I appreciated the fact that my backpack was around 10 lbs instead of close to 30 lbs. Using it on the plane was much easier than the laptop. The size is perfect for sitting in an airplane seat. The smart cover did a fine job for watching movies on the tray table. You could pull off the smart cover when playing games and put it in the back of the seat pocket easily. I am scared of leaving the iPad in that seat pocket though. Even when the person in front of me leaned back I had plenty of space to use the iPad. I had a 10 hour plane ride. Battery life was awesome. I watched 2 movies and played Galaxy on Fire 2 for 2 hours. I had 48% battery life when we landed. Yet another thing a laptop would struggle with. Internet on the boat was spotty. I did notice several times when I tried to connect to different access points throughout the trip (on the boat, on land, in an airport) that I would get a self assigned ip address on subsequent attempts to connect. The first attempt to connect usually worked. If I powered down and tried to connect again - then I would get the self assigned ip address. Didn't debug it. In the states I don't have this problem as I have a Mifi. The camera kit did a fine job. I was able to move my photos over to the iPad easily. I was using an SD card and everything just worked. I was able to use flickrstacker to upload the photos once connected to the internet - to flickr. Great way to look at photos as well. I had a friend with me who's camera was running out of juice. She wanted to look at her photos so I just used her SD card and the camera connection kit - and copied her photos over. She was able to show her friends the pictures without wasting camera batteries. So macguy's point is taken - it is not a laptop replacement but for as much computing as I would do on vacation - it was plenty of entertainment and connectivity in my opinion. Can't think of anything I'd want a laptop for on this vacation that the iPad couldn't do.
