Hi All,

When I get my MBP next month, it'll likely be shipped with two 1GB sticks of RAM in it... But I'm going to max it out to 4GB by buying two 2GB sticks from Crucial.

However, it seems foolhardy to buy 2GB at Apple's inflated prices, and then spend an additional $330 just to replace it entirely... Is there any recourse other than eating the extra cash? Can I buy a system with no RAM? Or is there someplace I can trade in the original RAM?

Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Put the old ones on eBay, that's what I did.

Just out of curiosity... How much did you get for them?

Not much, can't remember exactly, but they were 512MB ones, so not as much as 1Gb's are likely to fetch. Just put a starting price of say 75% market rate and see what happens.

I think that is still way too high. (assuming you mean Apple's market rate).

I figure you can get approximately $40-50 for each module.

And buy the 4GB upgrade from Newegg - it'll be much cheaper than Apple.
Out of curiosity though, what do you need 4GB of RAM for?

No. Why would I sell based on Apple's rate, given that I actually want to sell them?

I work a great deal with Illustrator and Photoshop and do some stuff that stresses my current system (Dual PIV 3.6GHz 2GB RAM). Plus I'm habitually interrupted by conflicting requests, and as a result often have many programs and files running simultaneously. So I figure having 4GB in my next system will certainly make my life a lot easier.

And during the times when I'll run Windows in one of the VM programs, I'd like to allocate it 2GB so that development experience there isn't lessened significantly from what I have now.
