2.16Ghz core 2 duo (15.4") 120 gig HDD, 1x1gb ddr2 (will expand in the next week or 2) and glossy screen

first of all, i must say that im a 100% PC user, who has no problem with macs. Now after selling my old ibook, and getting the new revision of MBP but found it refurbished, i found it to be a deal i couldn't refuse, as total cost to me, after applecare and selling my old ibook, was about 1400$ for this wonderful machine. SO now comes the question, do any of you have any recommendations on things i MUST have? such as widgets etc?

Other than that, anything i should know about specifically? i always take good care of my stuff, but im not going to be super anal about scratches, as that comes from using it. I will have this mobile for the majority of the time, and use my PC desktop (3.2Ghz core 2 duo, yes, 300Mhz faster than currently highest available) as my main gaming machine/workhorse beast. So yea! LMK folks! i know you guys know alot more about macs than i do, so educate me!

Download Onyx, a free program, and run the maintenance scripts periodically.

Ummm, something doesn't compute there!

You actually owned an iBook and never used it? ;)

haha

I took a picture of my computer, which I then put on full screen and took another picture... then I did it twice more, and for a twist I made it 3D for those who can see cross-eyed stereoscopic pairs.

As another new switcher with a MBP, the best advice I have is to learn as many keyboard shortcuts as you can. I find myself using the keyboard to navigate osx MUCH more often than I did with windows.

I agree with Loags, the keyboard shortcuts speed up your work quite a bit. Here's a list of keyboard shortcuts:

My favorite is Command-Tab and then Q to quit a program (while still holding Command).

Another piece of advice- most tasks in OS X are so easy and obvious that they're easy to overlook. For instance, want to email a picture? Instead of looking for where Insert a File is or something, just drag the picture into the email.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned Quicksilver yet. It's a pretty well-known program around Mac users. I have it and I love it!

I use it so much it feels like it came with OS X. I completely forget about it, until I use a computer with out it.

Call me an oddball, but I've installed Quicksilver on my machine twice, tried it for a day or so each time, and just couldn't get the hang of it. Between Spotlight and Finder and the Dock I guess I just muddle through.
