AppleCare Worth it?

I'm getting a PB 15" 1.25 GHz, 1GB Ram, SuperDrive, and everything else and I really want to know if it is worth it to buy AppleCare, I mean with apple care it boosts my purchase to above 3,000!!! Help!

I didn't get it. I've had no problems with mine, but I hear it's definently a good idea when getting a laptop...since you're constantly taking it everywhere with you...I've actually thought about buying it now....don't know if I can do that..hmm

I bought it with my powerbook and its a good thing. I have sent it into apple twice with repairs totalling over 600 total and it was covered under apple care.

I did something that screwed up my battery loading spring and that was 250 in repairs and they scratched and dinged it a bit and that was 350 in repairs for a new case that they installed

My AC experience has also been positive, though on smaller costs. The first, I dropped it and dented the bottom part of the case; the guy took it in the back and replaced it in 20 minutes. Second, I dropped it again (yeah i know) damaging the power cord. It took no longer than the paperwork to get a new one.

StarManta....Did you have Apple Care? How much is it for PB's, and is it worth it?

Can you buy apple care after you've already purchased you apple?

I belive you have a year from time of purchase to get apple care. but remember tha tyou only get 90 days of free phoen support...after that, its 50 bucks per call! i would defjinitely get apple care along with my powerbook (if i had the money to get a pb in the first place of course!)



Question....is the cd-rw drive DUAL format....+/-????

I know that *some* dvd-r drives are dual for dvds (depending on which one u ended up with)....but what about the cd-rw??

I got AC... I think it was $300.
What the deal is: you get a year of warranty with your purchase, and the "AppleCare" you buy is the next 2 years.

thanks, I think I'm going to purchase my Pb without the Apple Care and then when I have the money am going to get it within the year.

is it just me or does anyone else think its kinda crappy of apple to only give 90 days tech support? i mean, i've never bought a computer with less that 1 year. It actually was turning me away from buying an apple. I guess i don't really get why they will offer a year warrenty but only 90 days tech support. and what they told me when i ordered mine was, after 3 years, they won't help you at all (tech support wise). I have an HP that i bought about 10 years ago, and i can still call them and they will help, because they want to keep customers. it seems to me that apple doesn't reallly care about their customers, only care about making money off of service plans. Sounds like best buy if you ask me.

In general, I think extended warranties are not worth the money. However, in the case of a laptop I think extended AppleCare is a wise idea. In most computers, there are few moving parts. In a laptop however, in addition to the hard drive, there is a battery and the mechanisms that lock the hard drive for transport. Also remember, using the laptop on your lap puts more stress on your hard drive. It has to cope with your movement, however small, while its pirched on your lap.

In another situation, a school I do some volunteer Systems Administration work with purchased 10 iMacs with extended warranties. We've had several occations to take machines into the shop for some maintainance including one hard drive failure. Having what is in reality a 4 year warrnaty on the hardware is GREAT!

I'm also considering the 3 year Software Maintainance program which would cover OS updates and other software updates.

I think the entire laptop is considered a "moving part."
