Some simple questions!

Hey guys, thanks for the help on my last post. Got my iMac up and running and I love it. I'm so glad I switched. Anyway, i'll try and make this as quick as possible. Keep in mind that this is about my third day of using this mac!

1) In my Web Browser my window doesn't fit the screen. I can pull it and make it fit the screen, but periodically it goes back to it's initial setting. I know it doesnt really take much to pull it myself, but I'm just curious if I can change that somewhere. Same thing with apple works. The page to type on doesn't fill the screen, but when I drag this window to fill the screen there is a large grey box on the right side.

2) I have a combo drive and I know I can't burn DVD's. Does this mean there are no programs built in to burn DVD's or that the drive itselff, regardless of 3rd party program, cannot burn DVD's. I want to do some video editing and was wondering if you can burn VCD's and if so, how is their quality?

Thanks for your time guys and sorry if the questions aren't to sharp!

As a Mac Newbie, I have the same question about the window sizing.

As for the DVD Burning, unless you have a Superdrive (or an external DVD Burner) you cannot burn DVDs on a Combo Drive. It will play them but not burn. It's a hardware limitation.

In AppleWorks, the white page that you see simulates an 8 1/2 x 11 in. sheet of paper. It will always be a vertical rectangle because that's what a piece of paper looks like. You may be able to change that in page setup, but I'm not sure.

VCD's are not DVD's, but i'm no sure whether any of iLife is capable of burning them, as I don't use iDVD or iMovie... yet.

Hmmm. Once you size your browser page size, it should stay the same everytime you open it. If it goes small, tryi hitting the plus tab at the top left. Are you using panther, or an earlier version of os x? I don't know what to tell you about appleworks...my computer didn't even come with it.

guys, first you have to forget all about microsoft windows, in mac when you press the green button in right corner of window, the window will no display full screen unlike MS windows. it will increase in size as much as it needs to fully display the contents of the window.
unlike ms windows, in mac you do not need to have the app runing in full screen to get the optimal preformance.
you will soon understand what the window brousing is realy about.
if your screen is big enough, you can run as many apps at a time as you want. and have all their windows displayed simultaneously and there is no slow downs or crashes in system.

You can burn VCD's with Toast. Maybe not as good as DVD but watchable. I have better luck with Toast 5.2.1. For some reason ver 6 will not burn anything. Tho it will save it as a disc image I can burn with 5.
