    Software
    Hi
As a relative newcomer to mac I have a question in regard to software downloaded out-with the App Store. For example I purchased Office for Mac 2011 as a download. Is it possible to make a copy if I needed to reinstall due to a problem with my macbook pro in the future.

I do use time machine. Is this okay or is do I need to do anything else.

    Thanks

You should be fine to make a copy of the installer so that you can re-install it from scratch if you need to..

If you purchased the downloadable version, simply retain the installer on an external medium somewhere (DVD, external flash/hard drive, etc). I've done this in case something happens. In fact, something did happen to me (optical drive broke) so I needed the digital backup to re-install it.

    Thanks Guys
Is the installer the the dmg file that appears when you download? If so I deleted it. However with the example of Office I gave I did pay extra to be able to download again for 3 years. If the installer is the dmg file then I will remember in future when downloading any other paid software. If you could clarify that would be great.

Yes, the installer is in the DMG file. You will have to re-download it.

    Specs:
    iMac, i7 4GHz, 32GB memory, 1TB Flash Storage, OS X.12.6.
And when Office is up and running go into 'Help' and check for updates. The current version is 14.2.5.
Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

Titles purchased from the Mac App Store include the right to re-download the software indefinitely at no extra charge.
