So I cracked my screen and I was looking at prices for repairs and I simply can't afford it and want to do it myself. I've seen a few videos on how to do it and it looks pretty straight forward. My question is will I need to replace the whole display? I think it may just be that the glass part of the screen is cracked because I don't have anything leaking out and the display still functions, there are just fractures in screen as far as I can tell. Thanks for your help!!!

Have you checked out the replacement procedure at ifixit.com?

These are fairly detailed procedures with photos…so it should give you a pretty good idea of what part/parts that need to be replaced…and the parts that are reused.

Welcome to Mac-Forums

The iFixIt guide has the steps to take the display apart. And they have the entire replacement display for $499.95..

Not sure if you can take just the glass off and if they, or someone else, sells just the glass part..

You might also want to search eBay and other sites for broken MBP's from your model year that have intact LCD's to scavenge..
