moving pictures to my external hard drive.

I have lightroom 3, and been using it for a year. All of my pictures are on mycomputers hard drive. I want to move them on to a external hard drive, and when I import pictures in light room 3 I want them to go directly to the external hard drive, not internal hard drive. How do I accomplish this? Please HELP!!!
