    Networking at home and beyond
Hello. First it was Apple TV, then iPhone, and now I am slowly converting everything...

What I have all purchased within last month:
    Mobile:
    MacBook Air
    iPhone 4

    Home:
Mac Mini with connected 6-gig firewire drive, connected to my TV.
Apple TV gen 2, connected to my TV.
    AirPort extreme
    Win 7 PC

    Work:
    Synology with static IP
    Win 7 PC

    What I want:
    1. store iTunes on 6-giger (I store all movies there, too) and access it from anywhere: work, home, starbucks, iPhone

    2. store my extensive photo collection on 6-giger (~3 gigs of photos and videos i've made through the years. yeah, i know)

Would you recommend a setup where Mac Mini runs a VPN of sorts and my Air connects to it from anywhere?

What is better to use, Picasa (which is what I use on Windows) or iPhoto? I have... ah... about a million photos, literally.

    Specs:
    4GB Mac Mini 2012, 13" MBA, 15" MacBook Pro OSX 10.7, 32 GB iPhone 3GS, iPad2 64gb 3G
With that size photo collection you would probably better off with Aperture (what I use) or Adobe Lightroom.
I've always wanted to be smart, handsome and modest. But, I guess I'll have to be satisfied with two out of three . . .

I use photoshop and lightroom to process photos but Picasa to store/manage them since it is easy to search, upload, share, etc.

What I am looking for is something that I can use on my mac air to connect to my collection at home on the mac mini. Example: I want to show you photos I took in 1995 but we're sitting at a coffee shop in Germany and all I have is my mac air (or iPhone?). Can I somehow setup mini to share across wires?

Yep, this is how you'd want to do it I'd imagine.. as opposed to just opening your mini up to connections from the outside world.

Now, how you do that? Not a clue, never bothered. Back to my Mac would have been ideal for this, but sadly it's gone.
