I burned a DVD on a PC using Nero and now when I put the DVD on my Macbook Pro it spins the disc but eventually just spits it back out again. Never shows up in my Finder.

It's a DVD with 5 folders containing 5 different programs. The largest file is 1.2 GB if I remember correctly.

Any idea how I can see the content on the DVD?

It may depend on what "burning" format your Windows computer used...and what burn formats your Macintosh can read.

Well, I solved my problem in a round-about way.

Installed the folders on an external HDD and then transferred them over to my Macbook Pro.

I didn't know there are different burn formats.

Thanks.

Kinda sorta.

Some authoring packages have an instant write feature that treats the disc like a R/W device. The resulting discs are not universally compatible until they are finalized. That's probably what's happening here.

That's correct. Popular burn software for Windows RE: Nero and Ashampoo will leave the session open unless you specifically tell it to close. That works OK if it's the same computer, it's when you try to read it on a different machine that it may not be readable.
