deleting items from macbook hard drive

If i delete pictures i have used for my itunes library & downloads i have put into my itunes library off my macbook hard drive, will they vanish from my itunes? Silly question, but i want to make sure just incase!

Yes, the list in itunes are nothing more than links to the actual files. Don't do this unless you have a backup or are sure that you want to get rid of it.
