I just got my MBP yesterday and I noticed that my Documents and Downloads stacks do not look like folders, they look like PDF files. How do I get them to look like the normal folders?

The stacks will only look like folder if they are empty. So, your downloads stack will only look like a folder if there is nothing in your ~/Downloads folder.

I replied over on notebookreview.com, but for anyone curious here, you simply right-click the stack and choose "Display as -> Folder" and it will change the icon to a static folder image. Applications, Downloads, and Documents have unique folder icons for each so they will look distinctive in the Dock.

Here is what I do. First right click on the folders and change to Sort by Name.

I then create a blank folder with the folder and rename it to start with a ! or ni the case of my download forlder it's called "!downloads".

This keeps the folder icon showing first, no matter what the contents are in them.
