Setting keyboard shortcuts in Expose

Hello. It seems as though keys F1 through F12 are set by Apple and if I want to use say, F12 or Command F12, as a keyboard shortcut in Expose, they will not work.

Does anyone know a way around this?

I hope my question makes sense.
