Trying to archive my gmail to hard drive

I would like to archive my gmail for offline use. In windoz there are programs but I have not been able to find any for mac. Then I will delete them from my gmail account.

Any body know of a relatively simple (not into entourage) way to save my emails to the hard drive?

By archive, are you referring to copying your mail from the GMail server to your hard drive? Aren't you using Mac Mail to get and send your mail through the GMail servers?

you can get gmail as a desktop program from google now

I want to store my gmail on an external hard drive as an archive and access it occasionally; I want to be able to delete it in the online account.

I am not using mac mail, I am a new user and didn't know anything about it, thanks I will have to look into this. Will it allow me to delete emails in my account but save them offline?

help Gear is horrible

okay now I downloaded gears and nothing seemed to happen, i.e., I did not know to run it except the normal way of moving it to my apps folder and I double clicked it.

Now firefox has been crashing and crashing constantly. SO I thought this is messing up everything and tried to find the program and it has vanished. *poof* no where to be seen

Did a search on spotlight - nothing
Checked my downloads folder - nothing

when to finder and set parameter to application and nothing!

I just downloaded it last night and my browser has crashed like 5 times - never crashed before and it seems to be tied into my gmail account as I clicked on it and it bam! down goes my browser.

Meanwhile gear thingie is hiding

What to do?

Problem solved

okay hopefully I have solved my problem - the thing uninstalls on the browser tools menu

We shall see if that does the trick


Meanwhile still looking for a way to download my email to hard drive and save for reference in a way that will allow me to delete the emails in my account.
