Selecting and dragging.. sometimes I end up selecting all

HI.. great forum thanks so much..

Sometimes I click on a file or command click on a few files and want to drag them somewhere but instead of moving them I end up selecting all the files in the directory.. and am unable to move them..

Any ideas what I a doing wrong??

When you click to drag the files, click the icon or name itself and drag. From the sounds of it, you are trying to drag by clicking the space next to the names of the files (in list view at least).
