OS X Network Security Problems

By default OSX is sharing everything in the default "documents" folder from my system. If this information is deleted from another network location, it will erase my email and everything. Is there some way to limit which directories are shared from OS X? Seems like pretty crappy security to share these files by default..

the only way I can think of to protect them better is to do a get info(command+i) on the documents folder on the main computer, and in the ownership tab, set is as read only for others.

I've already tried denying them just so there would be no access, and that doesn't seem to be working. I'm playing around with it right now. Is it possible that I have access because on both systems I am logged in w/ the same username/password? Is there any type of auto-authentication?

It doesn't do that by default. Sharing is off by default, and permissions on the Documents folder should deny access to any user other than the owner.

If sharing is turned on, only the ~/Public folders should be shared without passwords, and those should be read-only.

Is it possible that you've stored the password in your keychain?

I am able to view these files from my Windows PCs. No keychain there. I called Apple Support, and we completely reset all my network settings. It is still doing it. His only idea was that maybe I authenticated from the Windows PC, and it saved the password...but I'm pretty sure I've never authenticated. To confirm this I swiched all my computers into a different workgroup, so I should have been prompted to authenticate again...didn't happen.
