    Specs:
    20" iMac C2D 2.16ghz, 13" MacBook 2.0ghz, 60gb iPod vid, 1gb nano
Go to System Preferences -> Security

Set it to require password when ever you return from a screen saver and sleep
Don't forget to use the new User Reputation System

thanks. how do i trigger it? i don't want to put the system sleep or wait till the screen saver kicks in. in XP, i can just C-A-D and click on the Lock Computer button w/o having to put it into sleep/green mode.

Probably an easier solution is this

Go to System Preferences -> Accounts

Click Login Options at the bottom of the username list.

Turn off Automatically Log in, Hide the Sleep, Restart and Shut Down Buttons, and Enable Fast User Switching

This will put your username at the top right of the screen next to the time. Click your name and go to the login window. This will lock your computer and have all of your programs still running for when you want to log back in
Don't forget to use the new User Reputation System

Install Quicksilver : you can then use the "LockScreen" command...

How many times will I have to say that Quicksilver is a MUST HAVE application...
