I got a Macbook (the last model, not the new "recycled" one) from my wife for X-mas (she's a wimp and couldn't hold it from me till then) and this is my first time ever touching a mac aside from in the store. Needless to say, I have a few questions.

When I was setting it up, it said something about a mac.net or .com email address that I could set up later, how do I do that?

It came with the Mac OS X disc, do I need to install them? Or does it already have it installed and they're back ups?

Where is word? Lol, or Mac's equivalent?

It's taking time for me to get used to it, but I absolutely love it. Last year we got a new HP desktop that is still pretty nice, but this is on another level, I love it. Anyways, thanks in advance for any advice/tips you guys have.

1) You have to purchase the address although the .mac addresses are not issued anymore. They are now mobileme addresses. Go to this URL for info:

Apple - MobileMe

2) Word: You can either purchase word for mac, or purchase iWork which includes a word processing program (which one depends upon your need) or you can download NeoOffice which is free.

Here is info on iWork:

Apple - iWork

Here is info on NeoOffice: NeoOffice Home

In my opinion, iWork 08 is easy to use and has options which are directed toward publishing. It's smaller and uses less resources than NeoOffice or even the latest Open Office 3.0. However, both Neo and Open Office are free whereas iWork 08 is not.

Having said all that, I prefer MS Office 2008 and is what I use.

Regards.

You can download a free trial of iWork 08
Apple - iWork - Trial
I would suggest checking out open office, neo office and iWork. You already know what your getting with MS Office.
