Maxamize active window

Hello- New mac convert feeling really dumb. How can do I maxamize an active window? There has to be hot key. Thanks!

Erm, we don't really maximise things very much. There's the green button on the top left that will adjust the window to the size of the document or whatever, I think that's called the zoom button. It's function depends on the application - in Firefox it maximises, in other things it doesn't.

If you want to make a custom size, in the active window at the bottom right hand corner there should be 3 diagonal lines, right under the scroll bar. Click and drag them to make the window larger or smaller. You can also use this to effectively maximize the active window.
