Hay guys. I am currently doing my 2nd year of University and in the summer before my final year i am going to purchase a mac.

I am specialising in Radio next year and the past 2 years i have used Adobe Audition/Cool edit or Sadie 5.

Are any of these programmes available on mac's?

I know there is garage band and Logic but i want to keep using the software they use in the industry.

Many thanks

As a former radio broadcaster/radio student myself, I can tell you this...the last time I used a digital editor for radio was ten years ago.

Things haven't changed, and everything I've seen since pretty much works the same way, so I really think things like Logic and Garage Band (and even Audacity) will give you some good practice.

BTW...there's nothing quite like the old-fashioned cut-n-splice editing on a reel-to-reel deck. Seriously, it's fun! And it tends to be cleaner and less abrupt than digital. Don't get me wrong, digital editing is amazing, but there's something about using a razor and editing tape...that's what I had to do in college 15 years ago because the college didn't have enough funding for a hard drive recorder.

When I had my first (and only) radio job interview (and got the job), the PD asked me if I had any digital editing experience. I said nope, just the old-fashioned way. He said, "Well, it's really easy to learn digital editing, and once you do, you'll never want to go back to cut'n'splice!" He was only half-right.

wow, I though Adobe had Mac support for all their software, but I checked their site and man was I surprised, they don't have Audition for Mac :D

anyway you can try ProTools or Soundtrack ... haven't tried them out though, maybe some1 can give some opinions?
