Can AirPort pick up signals and extend them for you?

My buddy just got a place and his neighbor doesn't mind him using his internet signal. But he can only get it certain parts of his house. He does have an airport extreme base tho. Can he put the airport in a place were he has a signal and is it to extend to his MBP in other parts of his house?
