Hiya,

I see from searching that M-F's used to have member product review section. I would love to see it return. It is really hard to get a consensus on a product or type of product via the search tool. I found comments that members could not follow the rules about posting there and it got all messed up. Since we have sooo many members now, maybe we could assign a few moderators to police it.

I would like it best if it was NOT a forum. Threads are too hard to follow for something like this, IMO. I would prefer a list with categories and subcategories. Some items might go in more than one category.

Like this:

Hardware>desktops>monitors
>laptops>accessories>mice
>peripherals>printers>accessories
Software>graphics
Accessories>bags

OK, I did that very quick, just to get my idea across. It would need some planning to do it well.

It should be searchable by product type, name, and/or rating, and have an alphabetical list option as well.

I would want the following options/requirements for adding a review:

1. 50 post minimum
2. username listed in review
3. where you purchased it
4. new or used
5. how long you've used it
6. overall rating. 1-5 or something like that
7. user comment field

There's my 2+ cents.

thanks,

Not sure if the forum software is capable of it, but I like the idea too.

I am currently working on a review of the MacBook Pro from a Windows System Admin's perspective. I hope to have the time to finish it at the first of April. It is as of yet undecided where I will post the review, but if you ahve a section here, I will post it here.

I like it too, I would definitely be willing to put in some reviews. That would be really helpful for new users.

So, any word on the possibility of a review section? I have two reviews in the works and will need somewhere to put them :)

We used to have a product reviews forum, barely anyone participated in it or followed the rules to writing standardized reviews so it was removed.

We're looking at alternatives, but do not have a timeframe to share at this point.

Well it's June now and I'm wondering if this "Product Review" couldn't be just a simple thing. For example, under the "Review, Hardware" section, someone could offer "Comments on the Western Digital Velociraptor 10K rpm hard drive" Then if anyone else has bought and /or used one, they could respond/add. I'm thinking it wouldn't need a lot of organization, maybe like the OP's suggestion... Review, Hardware; Review, Software; Review, OS X apps; Review, Accessories; etc...

We're doing a lot of this now when a poster asks a question about external back up drives, for example. There are bunch of threads on this subject already and they could all have been consolidated under a single category rather than many single threads.

Just my opinion...

We had something like that, to put it bluntly, it was a flop. The forum format is not good for reviews, etc.

We will have something that replaces it, but I don't think it's a good thing to bring back what we had because it clearly wasn't working.

What if reviews had to be submitted? So a minimum quality could insured.

I think there would be enough input from regular members to provide enough content.

Just a thought :)

The problem was two fold. They were low quality and we didn't get enough :)

We are going to revamp the process, you just need to give us time :)
