First G5 hiccup

The 1.8 dualie has been running flawlessly for 123 days! The run was broken this morning. After logging on to my G5 , the screen remained black. After holding down the power button the system re-booted and everything was cool.
Now, the only hint of a clue to this blip was that after I ran the latest Apple security update, the day before, after the re-start, I did notice that my desktop pictures contrast had changed to a shade darker. Other than that, the only other thing I had done was download OnyX, as suggested by someone on this forum. Like I said everything is all good now. Any ideas as to what may have caused the blackness?
Thanks

Also you might want to do what macfixit.com suggests. Run fix permissions using disk utility before you do the update. Then do the update, reboot, then fix them once again. That usually helps a lot.

At present I have put computer to sleep when inactive for 30 min., Put display to sleep in 30 min. and I've checked off put hard disks to sleep when possible. Do you think that the problem lies somewhere in these settings?

I seem to recall reading something on one of the Mac news sites (OSX Hints?) that there were still problems with sleep. Maybe turn sleep off all-together for a few days and see what happens....
