Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong...

If I open a finder window and resize it as well as resize some of the field widths (Name, Date Modified, Kind, etc.) the way I like, those settings disappear the next time I open a finder window. Is their a way to retain all of my resizing universally across all finder windows?

Hmm... it usually remembers that kind of stuff, at least if you do it two or three times... not sure about the widths of columns, but definitely window size and selected view (coverflow, tiles, columns)

Hmmm.... Well, that worries me a bit. I have resized it many times but it will not retain those settings. Nothing in the view options seems to apply to this. If anyone could suggest what I might check I'd be grateful.

The answer is to uncheck the "Always open in list view" box. Then it remembers everything.... :)
