problems with external hard drive

Finally I got a Mac now I want to use want to use my external hard-drive, but it´s not allowed for me to write not read.
Maybe Format: Windows NTFS is the reason?
What can I do?

You can either reformat it to fat 32, or download macfuse that will allow read write access to NTFS drives

I have used this app as I had a load of material on a 320GB HD which was not supported by Mac, and now it has read and write access - EXCELLENT!

If you want both system info and/or on the drive us as above.

If you are going to use as Mac only, connect up, go to Disk Utility, check the external disk and zero the drive to Mac Journal format.
