I understand that finder is able to mount disk images without any supporting applications as a "virtual drive" and the end result is that small icon on your desktop. BUT! The computer recognizes that this is not a cd/dvd. On a pc, you can use an application, such as daemon tools or magiccd, to mount disk images on a "virtual device" and the computer treats it as a cd/dvd. I've been told that is because you need a virtual device to mount the images on, like the two mentioned before.

Is there any virtual device application for mac? and if so what is it and where is it available?
