The Apple Store...

I wonder how much those guys at the Apple Store make? Seems like it would be a really cool place to work. Just curious.

Yeah, that's what I would be afraid of. It seems like a really cool job, but I don't think the budget could take a $40k cut in pay. Oh well, guess I'll just keep grinding away doing what I can barely stand anymore.

At least I have a Mac to go home to. ;D

I don't know how much they make now, but I knew someone that worked there like 8 months ago and he said that if they meat there yearly quota and they worked part time they got a 500 dollar bonus, and if they worked full time they would get a 1000 dollar bonus!!
But I don't know if thats true or not.

The sales person I spent a lot of time with prior to purchasing this PowerMac told me that they had the worst of all worlds: no commission on sales, but a quota. If they didn't meet the quota, they were considered a poor performer and could be dismissed. Much as I think it would be a fun place to work, I think I would not like it there!

Interesting. I find that a bit odd in that the sales person I spent almost 2 hours with basically talked me out of buying an iMac. He told me I should go home and order the Mac Pro I ended up with. I did this, and there is no way he got any kind of credit for the sale. He did however really impress me by encouraging me to be patient and order what I really wanted.

I have never sold anything that had any quotas attached, but that definitely doesn't sound like fun. On the other hand, the Apple store near me is always packed and let's face it, for the most part the product sells itself. Beyond that, pretty much anyone who walks into an Apple store is at least interested if not specifically ready to make a purchase.

I'd love to work there for minimum wage.
Being an important part in switching windows users? That in itself would make it fun.

I was accepted to work for them as a part-timer that was going to also lead with Photoshop and Illustrator workshops. They said my starting salary would've been $9 something and it would've easily moved up in just a month's time.

I was a PC user at the time and it seemed fun. They actually tried coming back to me to work at an upcoming store in a mall in NJ but I now reside in NYC.

Fun people. I wasn't good enough to work as a Genius, yet, though. I specialized in hardware and creative software, not the OS.

This sort of behavior is what impressed me the most about the salesman I had. He spent literally hours with me, knowing full well that I was not going to buy that day (and I didn't - I didn't make the purchase until several days later). He was patient, helpful, enthusiastic about the product (BOY was he enthusiastic!) and just really pleasant to deal with. It really added to my overall purchase experience.

I was lucky of course. Those of us of "a certain age" appreciate a salesperson of a similar age, and I was blessed enough to get one. This guy was clearly an experienced and polished sales person. He KNEW how to sell. He had the art of low key, low pressure, let-the-product-sell-itself, selling down to ... well, an art. I am sure that one of the many young kids who normally populate the sales floor at the Apple store would not have had enough general sales experience yet under their belt to know how to treat a customer so well. But, everyone has to learn somewhere...

In the meantime, I went into an Apple store, had a great experience, and purchased a product... the first of many from them. I have never regretted it. Kind of makes me want to work there, so that I could extend a similar experience to other users. Since I can't do that however, I come here instead. I can't be on the sales floor, but I can extend that same patient helpful attitude towards other Mac new comers.
