How use single user mode

So I recently posted, my iBook crashed pretty bad
and could not get it to start up

well, I've finally gotten it to start up single user mode
but have no clue where to go from there
is there anyway I can repair a disk from single user mode
if so, how?

Type in the following:
fsck -fy
Keep doing it til it quits reporting disk errors.
Better yet, boot up from the install disk and run DiskUtil from the menu.
