While opening zip files..

Folks-- I have a few password protected .rar files. Many a times, I would just want to open the .rar file, look at the contents and close it. (I don;t want to leave a unrar-ed copy on the disk). But, this is exactly what happens, and each time, I'll have to delete the unziped file. Is there a way to get around this?

Created an encrypted disk image in Disk Utility. As big or small as you want.

Mount it to view the file, unmount to re secure it.
