Advice needed on G4 ( Yikes / Sawtooth )

Hi Guys / Gals ,

I have been offered a G4 Mac . It maybe a Yikes or a Sawtooth , i am not sure until i have more details .

Details so far are G4 , 450Mhz , 27GB HD , 768MB RAM , DVD ROM.

It has no monitor and comes from a business that are upgrading their Macs .

Is it a worthwhile purchase ? i think the cost is about £150-£200

Well, if it's a 450MHz, then it's a "Sawtooth" because there is no 450MHz "Yikes," to my knowledge. If it really is a "Sawtooth," then I'd say that's a pretty good deal. Seeing as how it can be upgraded just as well as any other G4 can. You could even upgrade it to dual processors, if you wanted to.

If it is a "Sawtooth" then i will buy it .

The most easy way to find out which one it is is a look at the mainboard. The "Sawtooth" has an AGP-slot for graphics, the "Yikes!" has no AGP, the graphocs card is in a PCI-slot. That's why the "Yikes!" is also known as "G4 (PCI graphics)" and the "Sawtooth" as "G4 (AGP)"
And evopanop is right, there never was a 450MHz "Yikes!"

If it's a "Yikes!", don't buy it..."Sawtooth" can be found for low money and are far better than the "Yikes!"
