Recording Audio and Video separately in iMovie?

I want to use my Macbook's iSight to record video, but record the audio portion of it using a Mic connected to a USB audio interface.

Is this possible?

What you can do is record the video, and then add in the audio as a soundtrack that spans the entire length of the video. I believe there is also a way to remove the audio from the video or bring down the volume to the point where everything is inaudible.

The video is going to be recorded live, so I need to be able to do both at the same time.
