How can I back up my iphoto library across several discs (dvd's). When I copy and paste the iphoto file onto a dvd (the library is 9gb in total), and click burn it says it wont fit onto one disc, which is fine. It tells me to delete some files. I dont want to as i want a complete backup. How can i get it to spread across several dvd's like itunes does when burning 30 or 40 tracks to cd.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Use a dedicated disc burning app instead of just the Finder, or try using iPhoto's built-in burn command... that might offer a spanning option.

But backups to DVDs are a pain... I'd go with a nice external harddrive instead and use that for full system backups.

I would second getting an external HD for backups. Keep in mind that most DVDs are not archival, meaning they may last just a few years before the data begins to deteriorate until the disk becomes unreadable.

Yeah my current iphoto library (around 10 gigs) is on a mybook external hard drive. Not internal as i dont want to place all my photos on the internal imac hard drive.

I have no problem with them fading after a few years as I will back up every few months

I will try the dvd backup in iphoto now

Toast has a disc spanning feature. Just drop stuff in it and it will span across the required number of DVDs.
