Canon MP830, new, won't work

My new MP830 all-in-one printer won't work. All packing material and tape has been removed. Error code 5C00 is currently displayed. The printer forums I've found say this is a problem with the ink pads needing replacement. It has not deigned to do anything as messy as printing yet so this cannot be. The previous error code was 6A00. Any suggestions, please?

Problem solved. Canon, via the retailer replaced the all-in-one. The new one works! oh joy!
