customising desktop?

Your Mac's Specs
MACBOOK PRO 2.6ghz 4gb ram
Ive been messing around dashboard and theres a few widgets i really like but how can i leave them so they are permanently on my desktop? and dont just come up when i click the dashboard symbol? Thanks
