What do you mean by lots?
If you mean fill the hard drive full then yes it will affect the performance.
I haven't had a Mac long enough to fill a HD yet so I can only say that from reading the forum it seems that you can fill you're HD to about 80% without performance dropping.
Personally I keep mine on an external HD and keep about 10 albums on my macbook which I change when I get bored of them.

30Gb, no, not much at all. unless, it fills the last of your free space. ;)

how big is your drive, and how much space will be left?

its quite odd that my ipod has the same amount of storage space as my laptop!

well as long as you don't end up with less than 2 or 3 gigs of free space you shouldn't really see any sort of slowdown.

itunes might slow down as you add music to it, but i can't say for sure since i only add songs temporarily to play them.

How do you move them back and forth without confusing iTunes? This concept intrigues me.
