Ur Worst Windows "Situation"

My hardest part was configuring Windows to do what I wanted it to do. Things like connecting to the internet and setting up a public web server in particular, were a headache. XP helped a little with these types of issues, and I felt it was a major improvement on the old Win98, but it still had its little annoyances. Inevitably, I jumped over to Linux and found myself quite able to use it to do things Windows seemed to refuse to do. I could now customize my computer's operations however much I wanted to, but now I had another problem - I spent more time (and had more fun) setting things up than actually using them! Terrible!

Of course, you know, I made the Switch, and none of that is even an issue anymore. Internet was connected as soon as I plugged in my wireless router and there's even an option to host files over the internet in the Network preferences. Crazyness, what was Apple thinking? Let the user do what they want simply and easily? Crazyness, I says again.

Feel free to post your worst windows problems or situations here. Its always funny to hear problems... I'll start.

Ok, so my windows machine got a virus and wouldnt repair, so i reinstalled xp. Then i turned it on and it froze. So then i resarted and it said the registry was corrupt!!! So i was very angry. Then i reinstalled xp again. It froze again and then the power supply shorted out for a second. It froze again and i resarted. Then it told me i was missing an "important" system file!!! So then i installed windows 98. (yay). Im just hoping the power suply wont short out agian and accidentally delete some sysytem file. lol... i no its sad.

Whats ur worst problem???

Turning it on.

Don't worry, I do know how to shut down a computer. Yes, even a Microstink computer. ;)

Haha.... "Turning it on". That also seems to my major problem right now. The Power supply keeps stalling and the hard drive suddenly stop spinning during start up. :radioacti

My worst windows situation:

Im on Windows 98, and its a slow PC that worked well for 2 years. Well, recently, i found lots of spyware and viruses on it. I tried to remove them, and i had to restart the computer when i removed them, so i clicked "restart later". I was online for about 10 minutes, and then it went crazy. Popups from the internet, very slow loading sites, and the page would refresh when i put the mouse over a link. Then i clicked "restart" and it turned blurry for 2 hours.

I think i have had the worst windows experience. This is why im switching to Mac!

"I have a norton anti virus, and I have not got one spyware program on my PC. You have to to be a smart surfer. If it says, download this .exe to download this for free, then chances are, you are downloading spyware. Just click no, it's that simple."

That is true most of the time in my experience, but not always.

I mean, how is the average surfer supposed to distinguish between the free google toolbar (which is safe) and the free 'Ultrasearch' toolbar by another company. (Made that one up btw)?

There ARE good windows freeware apps out there (openoffice and winamp spring to mind) but the hard part is deciding which are good and which are bad.

PLUS most spyware comes with a reasonably good app (gozilla the download manager for instance used to have spyware/adware), and people don't know that they are installing all the other crap as well...

Besides, lets me realistic here: of all the windows users on the web, I bet the majority has at some point or another had a virus / spyware problem.
You can't say the majority of users are doing something wrong, the OS is perfect, when there clearly is a problem...

Yeah, lets not forget about those programs that take it upon themselves to, get this, install themselves. Internet Explorer allows that kind of thing. It's crazy. Just by going to certain websites, binaries get downloaded and run on your computer. I know it sounds crazy, but I've had the problem on more than one occasion, and I know a bit about Windows, enough to know not to run strange executables. The root of *most* of the spyware/virus problems on Windows can be traced to "holes" (maybe Microsoft put them there on purpose? It'd be pretty hard to miss bug reports about this) in IE.

Well, I guess I should say educated then. You should know by now not to install crap you didn't ask for. The google toolbar has to be downloaded, and it won't be forced on you. Surf wise. If you are looking for cracks, warrez, hacks, free porn, ringtones, basically anything that is free. Obviously nothing is free in this world and people have to make money off their "free" sites. If that means installing a toolbar on someone, thats how they do it.

IE is bad at letting things happen, so I stopped using IE a long time ago. But I will never download an .exe forced upon me. And as for kaaza and gozilla, that usually comes from software you shouldn't be downloading in the first place. If you are downloading software that steals music and vidoes, what do you expect?

Ok.... It's weird how errors can just suddenly occur. U could just be listening to music and then OH NO! IT APPEARS I HAVE CAUSED AN ILLEGAL OPERATION. Then they have the stupid error report. Which is such a waste of time. I mean COME ON. Its sad really....Dont you agree??!?!

As Absolute Zero pointed out, Mac OS X also has the "stupid" error report...

I have another Doze story.

Over fall break, I went my friend's house. One evening, I was writing an email to my mother when all of a sudden the computer spazzed out on me and started typing in all capital letters. This was very strange because I wasn't holding down the shift key and caps lock wasn't on. I pressed the caps lock key and discovered that I could type in lowercase letters. I finished the email, pressed the caps lock key again, and then told my friend's father what had happened.

A few minutes later, my friend's father went on the computer to try to figure out what was wrong. He opened Word and started typing random letters. Every single letter was lowercase!

It was a very bizarre experience.

Actually, no its not. When an application crashes, it will send the crash log to Apple and they can try and fix the bug.
