closing the screen?

Hi,
This is my first post I'm new to mac and I love my new intel macbook. I'm running Leopard 10.5.2. The problem is I've got a mini dvi-dvi adapter and I hook up my macbook to my lcd tv, I want to close the screen on my macbook and it goes to sleep... Is there anyway to change that setting and make the computer run with the screen closed?

Yeah, you should have those settings available to you in the system preferences under either energy saver or displays.

I run my MBP the way you want all the time.

I don't know what you are talking about...
There isn't a setting to prevent the computer from going to sleep when the lid is closed.

What you have to do is...
1)turn off the computer (off, not sleep)
2)plug in you monitor
3)turn on your computer and quickly close the screen, and leave it closed
4)your monitor should still have a black screen until os x starts and the login windows appears, then your monitor should be working
5)either plug in an external keyboard and mouse, or use the macbook keyboard and mouse (you can open it back up once the macbook screen turns off and the external monitor turns on)
you are now running in clamshell mode:

Make sure you plug in the power adapter when you are running the Macbook with the lid closed, I found it will go to sleep otherwise and you cant wake it up via a external keyboard.

Needlessly complex.

Just plug the closed computer into a display, mouse and keyboard. Click the mouse or tap the keyboard to wake it up..

Yup sure will, Did it on my MacBook all the time.

did not know it could be done with it on sleep mode too...
I guess I did not have my power adapter plugged in when i tried it

With working with a Bluetooth mouse/keyboard. Make sure under the bluetooth settings the "Allow bluetooth devices to wake this computer." is checked.

Clamshell Mode

OK,

I got it working on my Samsung 22" external with the lid closed.
She went to sleep, but then woke when I moved the mouse and/or tapped a key.

However,

now the picture on my 22" external is the pits! Looks only slightly better than a photo negative!

Any clue??

did you try changing you display resolution to fit your screen
system preferences --> Display
